Weekend Review 12th and 13th September:
Hi Folks. Sorry for the lack of activity lately, we’ve had a few technical difficulties and have been busy with other projects. But from this day forward we promise to update the site more regularly and generally make it more exciting for you.
So on with the review and apart from stamping on other playes heads and generally being annoying, Emmanuel Adebayor actually did something significant at the weekend and win the game for Man City with a nutmeg! In what was a Jekyll and Hyde type of match for Adebayor he achieved a delightful megs during his mazey run in the Second Half when the game was still tight at 2-1. Having won the game Ade obviously knew he was winding up the Arsenal faithful and chose to celebrate in front of the away supporters. Foolish, as he has now been slapped with two charges of misconduct for his antics in the game. The match ended 4-1 thanks to the nutmeg.
Two more nutmegs (i know three megs! Amazing!) happend at the weekend both drastically altering the matches final score. The first came in the match between Liverpool and Burnley. Yossi Benayoun megged a Burnley defender en route to scoring his first of three goals in the four goal rout at Anfield. Yossi needn’t have scored the three goals as Liverpool had already won the game 2-0 after 27 minutes. The last megs of the weekend happened in the game between Wigan and West Ham. The three points looked like they were going to Wigan, until West Ham new boy Allesandro Diamanti did a scrappy megs late in the second half before curling the ball onto the post in celebration. West Ham win the game 2-1.
If three megs wasn’t enough for us a volley was scored at the weekend and an overhead kick at that, courtesy of Jermaine Defoe. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough for Tottenham as they went down 2-3 to an impressive Manchester United performance. United’s goals came from a superb Ryan Giggs freekick, with Anderson and Wayne Rooney adding the other two.
Sunderland picked up another three points as they saw off Hull City who gave a poor defensive display as they lost 4-1, with ex Hull player Michael Turner getting on the score sheet for the Black Cats. Things didn’t turn out well for Wolves either as more defensive mistakes saw them go down 3-1 to Blackburn Rovers. Another team that look in Dire Straights are Portsmouth, who lost 2-3 to Bolton at home, Pompey are let to pick up any points so far this season and if things do not improve soon the future looks bleak for the Hampshire team. Chelsea continued on their winning streak after a late Florent Malouda goal gave Chelsea a 1-2 victory over Stoke City.
Sundays game’s saw Aston Villa win the second city derby against Birmingham City, thanks to Gabriel Agbonlahor header in the 85th minute. The final game of the weekend saw Fulham beat Everton 2-1 at Craven Cottage. We at Lovely Volley thought that Paul Konchesky had initially scored a volley on 57 minutes but on closer inspection the ball had bounced before Konchesky connected with the ball. Fulham’s winner was scored by Damien Duff, with Tim Cahill grabbing the goal for Everton.
Tables to be updated later. Keep Volleying.
